Ministry of ICT receives 35 requests for 900 MHz band use

Colombia's Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies closed its request period with 35 applications from 30 parties to use the 900 MHz band across 139 municipalities.

The Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies announced the positive closure of its request stage for 900 MHz spectrum use permits. A total of 35 applications arrived from 30 interested parties seeking to deliver connectivity to 139 municipalities in 26 departments.

Twelve requests came from organized communities aiming to operate as Internet Juntas in Bolívar, Caldas, Cauca, Córdoba, Huila, Norte de Santander, Sucre and Valle del Cauca. The remaining 23 requests were submitted by 18 telecom companies targeting 142 sites spread across 127 municipalities.

The ministry will now begin an analysis phase to verify compliance before granting spectrum permits. The 900 MHz band offers greater coverage and penetration in rural zones with geographic obstacles.
