Nepal's film sector is ramping up production for a busy year ahead, with numerous movies in pre-production, filming, and post-production stages. Releases are slated for major festivals like Dashain and Tihar, signaling increased activity in the industry. Several projects feature prominent directors and actors, highlighting a surge in cinematic output.
The Nepali film industry is experiencing a notable uptick in activity as producers gear up for multiple releases in the coming year. Films such as 'Maitighar', 'Double Triple', 'Maharaj Dhiraj', and 'Dashami' are scheduled for Dashain next year, with shooting set to begin in a few months. Other projects targeting Tihar releases are also advancing in their filming preparations.
Director Michael Chand is preparing 'Ram Naam Satya', starring hero Viraj Bhatt in the lead role, with production slated to start from Baishak. Producers are in pre-production for around a dozen additional films. Meanwhile, post-production is ongoing for 'Balidan' and 'Hari Bahadur Ko Jutta', both eyeing a Dashain release. The shooting of 'Mahabhoj' wrapped up just a few days ago.
Several films are currently in active production, though the number remains relatively low compared to upcoming projects. 'Janai Harayeko Bahun' is poised to start shooting shortly. 'Jerry: On Top', directed by Suyog Gurung, has been filming for four months without completion. Anil Yonjan is currently shooting 'Kusti', while 'Kalli', directed by Lakshman Sunar, began production a few days ago in Jumla.
Other ongoing shoots include 'Harsha', directed by Ekta Poudel, which started two weeks ago with no fixed release date yet. 'Koshedhunga', under Saroj Paudel, and 'Magne Raja', directed by Rishi Lamichhane—which features a scene of the former king departing the airport—are both progressing in full swing. Tulsi Ghimire's 'Pahad' and Surendra Paudel's 'Barishta Balaram', announced for Tihar, are also actively filming.
With many films across various production phases, the industry anticipates a significant increase in release pressure over the next year.
