New York teen charged with stabbing grandmother's fiance to death

An 18-year-old New York man faces second-degree murder charges after allegedly throwing boiling oil and water on his grandmother's fiance while he slept, then stabbing him to death. Noel Bermudez-Chin called 911 himself after the early morning attack in East Northport. The victim, 61-year-old Joseph Falvo, died at a hospital.

Suffolk County police responded to a 911 call at 3:42 a.m. on Sunday reporting a stabbing in a trailer in East Northport. The caller was Noel Bermudez-Chin, who prosecutors say admitted to throwing boiling oil and boiling water on 61-year-old Joseph Falvo as he slept on the couch, then stabbing him five or six times in the back and once in the stomach. Falvo was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead there. Officers found and arrested Bermudez-Chin about a mile away from the scene and booked him into the Suffolk County Police Department's 3rd Precinct, where he remains in custody without bail. He was arraigned Monday in Central Islip and is due back in court on April 3, according to court documents obtained by News 12 Long Island and reporting from Newsday. Falvo was engaged to Bermudez-Chin's grandmother, Cecilia Bermudez, since February, with a wedding planned for July. The three had been living together in the trailer following a house fire in December 2025. No motive has been disclosed by authorities.
