The 2026 Australian Open started with a setback for Nicolás Jarry, who fell in his qualifying debut against Titouan Droguet, ranked 152 in the ATP. The final score was 6-4 and 6-3 in favor of the Frenchman, in a match that lasted one hour and 21 minutes on the Melbourne Park courts. Droguet made few errors and controlled the game, recording seven aces to Jarry's two. Additionally, the Chilean had a 75% first serve rate but won only 61% of points on them, compared to his rival's 86%.
This result marks a hesitant start for Jarry in the season, as he also lost in the first round of the Canberra Challenger 125 to Spaniard Rafael Jodar (165th) 6-3, 6-4. Jaime Fillol's grandson was aiming to qualify for the main draw of the year's first Grand Slam, but his path ended immediately.
