Over 1.1 million attend Carnival of Cultures in Berlin

More than 1.1 million people attended the 30th Carnival of Cultures festival in Berlin.

The organisers of the Carnival of Cultures reported that more than 1.1 million people attended the festival held in Berlin over the Pentecost weekend. Around 770,000 people attended the parade and around 390,000 visited the street festival in the Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg neighbourhoods.

The event, established some 30 years ago, featured more than 60 groups contributing to the parade with dancing, music and costumes from around the world. In a statement issued on Monday, the organisers described the festival with its parade on Pentecost Sunday as one of Germany’s biggest street festivals and postmigrant traditions.

The summer-like weather had created a fascinating atmosphere, they said.
