Over 200 wholesale stores to offer discounts next week

Over 200 stores will join the Black Mayorista initiative from Monday 18 to Sunday 24 May to boost consumption. The move comes amid falling sales and slowing inflation.

The Black Mayorista initiative will bring together manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers applying discounts across more than 200 stores for one week. The goal is to encourage purchases at a time when sales remain weak.

Daniel Acuña, manager of Supermercado Mayorista Masivos, said consumption showed a slight recovery in May. “We are growing in units sold, also giving up some of our profitability,” he noted.

Acuña explained that customers spend more time searching for prices and make smaller, planned purchases. Top-selling items include oils, flours, rice, sodas, water and yerba. The sector also sees growth in online sales, although the physical channel remains central.

The businessman highlighted that between 10 % and 15 % of the more than 3 300 active products are offered on promotion each week. Acuña expressed optimism and said economic stability will be key to recovering consumption in the coming months.
