Pedro de la Vega nominated for 2025 FIFA Puskás Award

Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Pedro de la Vega has been shortlisted for the 2025 FIFA Puskás Award for his stunning volley against Cruz Azul in Leagues Cup 2025. The goal came in a 7-0 win on July 31, capping a dominant performance that helped the Sounders claim the tournament title. Fans can vote for the award on FIFA.com until December 3.

Seattle Sounders FC's Pedro de la Vega earned a nomination for the 2025 FIFA Puskás Award, recognizing the most spectacular goal in men's soccer from August 11, 2024, to August 2, 2025. The Argentine midfielder's right-footed volley in the 91st minute of a Leagues Cup 2025 group stage match against Cruz Azul on July 31 sealed a 7-0 victory, the largest margin in tournament history and a club record for the Sounders since joining MLS.

De la Vega ran onto a cross-field pass from right back Alex Roldan and smashed the ball over goalkeeper Kevin Mier, off the far post, and into the net after hitting the woodwork multiple times. He scored a brace in the match and tallied three goals overall in the competition, earning Player of the Tournament honors as Seattle went unbeaten, outscoring opponents 16-2, and defeated Inter Miami CF 3-0 in the final to win Leagues Cup 2025.

This marks the fifth nomination for an active MLS player, following Álvaro Barreal (FC Cincinnati, 2023), Zlatan Ibrahimović (LA Galaxy, 2019), Camilo Sanvezzo (Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2014), and Eric Hassli (Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2012). A win would make de la Vega the first MLS player to claim the award. Voting on FIFA.com allows fans to rank their top three goals, contributing 50% to the decision alongside a panel of FIFA Legends.

The Sounders' season concluded with a playoff loss to Minnesota United FC on November 8.
