Kenyan police are investigating claims of youth recruitment to join the Islamic State group in Mozambique after two suspects were arrested and brought to court.
Yusuf Mbashir Swaleh and Abdulkarim Mohamed Salim appeared before the Kwale court on June 18, 2026, where they denied terrorism-related charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The charges involve coordinating recruitment for ISIS members, organizing recruitment meetings and financing terrorist travel. The court heard that Swaleh sent Sh8,000 on May 7, 2026, to support travel to Mozambique.
Investigators from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit stated the suspects were arrested at the Horohoro border while heading to Mozambique. The case continues with a bail decision expected later.
