In the evening in Rostock's Südstadt district, eyewitnesses reported a man carrying a knife on a tram. The driver instructed passengers to evacuate the vehicle. Upon arrival, police found only the suspect and a sleeping passenger aboard.
The 31-year-old, previously known to police, pulled the knife from his backpack on command and threw it to the ground. Officers secured and searched him. With around two promille of alcohol in his blood and signs of drug use, he was detained.
No passengers were threatened or injured, and police took the man to a clinic for medical care. He now faces charges for violating weapons laws. The tram resumed its route just minutes after the operation ended.
Authorities emphasized that the incident was contained and posed no further risk to the public.
