Portugal wins U-17 World Cup 2025 by beating Austria 1-0

Portugal's U-17 team clinched the 2025 U-17 World Cup title with a 1-0 victory over Austria in the final at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The sole goal came from Anisio Cabral in the 32nd minute. This marks Portugal's first-ever win in the tournament's history.

The 2025 U-17 World Cup final took place on November 27, 2025 local time, with Portugal dominating from the start. In the third minute, Duarte Cunha fired a shot that sailed wide of Austria's goal. Two minutes later, Austria's Hasan Deshishku and Johannes Moser countered, but their efforts yielded no goal.

Portugal took a 1-0 lead through Anisio Cabral's goal in the 32nd minute, capitalizing on a pulled-back pass from Cunha. In the second half, Austria pushed to equalize; Deshishku's free kick in the 48th minute was saved by Portugal's goalkeeper Romario. In the 81st minute, Ifeanyi Ndukwe's header was also blocked by Romario, keeping Portugal's goal intact until the final whistle.

This victory marks Portugal's first U-17 World Cup title, surpassing their previous best of third place in 1989 in Scotland. For Austria, second place is their finest achievement, having only reached the group stage before. In the third-place match, Italy defeated Brazil 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Portugal's coach praised the team, stating: “They played not just with technique, but also with heart and discipline. This is the start of the next golden generation.” Portugal had earlier eliminated Brazil in the semifinals via penalties. This success highlights the progress in Portugal's youth football development.
