Procuraduría opens investigation against minister Antonio Sanguino for alleged political participation

The Procuraduría General de la Nación opened a disciplinary investigation against Labor Minister Antonio Sanguino Páez for statements made during the May 31 electoral day in Valledupar.

The investigation originated after social media posts showed an intervention by the minister during the opening of the first round of presidential elections. In the video, Sanguino noted that one of the options backed a transformation project led by the president of the Republic.

The Disciplinary Chamber of Instruction, led by delegate prosecutor Esquio Manuel Sánchez Herrera, ordered evidence collection and formal notification to the minister. The entity clarified that this opening does not constitute a sanction but the start of an analysis phase.

The process will assess whether there was irregular conduct under restrictions for public servants in political activities. The 2026 presidential elections had 41.2 million Colombians eligible to vote.
