Public Works Ministry Awards Ruta 5 Concession for 821 Million Dollars

The Ministry of Public Works awarded the Río Bueno-Puerto Montt section of Ruta 5 to Intervial Chile S.A. on Saturday for 821 million dollars. The project will modernize 129 kilometers of highway in the Los Lagos Region.

The Supreme Decree formalizing the contract was published on June 13 2026 in the Official Gazette. The works include third-lane expansions over 79 kilometers, 147 kilometers of service roads and 33 kilometers of bike lanes.

Biminister Louis de Grange highlighted the speed of the process. He noted the award came just over two months after the economic bids opened, unlike waits of up to eight months in prior years.

The route covers the communes of San Pablo, Osorno, Río Negro, Purranque, Frutillar, Llanquihue, Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt. The works will benefit more than 530 thousand people and ensure continuity of the road before the current concession ends.
