Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin win men's doubles at Indonesia Masters II 2025

Indonesia's men's doubles pair, Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin, clinched the title at Indonesia Masters II 2025 by defeating Choi Sol Gyu and Goh V Shem in a thrilling final. This marks Indonesia's second championship at the event, following the mixed doubles victory of Marwan Faza and Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata. The match took place at GOR PBSI Sumatera Utara in Medan on Sunday.

The Indonesian pair Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin defeated the Korea-Malaysia duo Choi Sol Gyu and Goh V Shem with a score of 21-18, 17-21, 24-22 in the men's doubles final of Indonesia Masters II 2025, a Super 100 level tournament. The match, held at GOR PBSI Sumatera Utara in Medan, was intensely competitive across three games.

Nikolaus Joaquin described the match as truly tense. "In the first game, we played aggressively because we had the wind advantage, and in the second game we led 11-9," he said. However, in the second game, they rushed their attacks, losing 17-21 as opponents anticipated their shots.

In the deciding game, the Indonesians adopted a more patient approach after the interval. They led 20-19, though Nikolaus admitted his hand trembled during a crucial serve. "But my coach and partner kept reassuring me to seize this chance to become Super 100 champions," he stated. "Even though we were told to stay calm and patient, we still attacked because for us, the best defense is offense."

Raymond Indra highlighted the opponents' seniority and experience, which kept them composed even when trailing. He felt a sense of déjà vu at critical points, recalling three previous final losses. "It felt like a heavy burden on myself because I really wanted to win," he said. "Finally, I'm so relieved to win a Super 100; previously with different partners, I failed twice in finals. With Joaquin, we had also failed once before."

The victory is dedicated to Indonesia and is expected to boost their performance at next week's Super 300 tournament in Korea. Crowd support, including Nikolaus' parents, provided extra motivation. This serves as valuable momentum following their Macau Open showing.
