Regional train breaks down in upper bavaria, over 300 passengers evacuated

A regional train carrying over 300 passengers broke down on Sunday evening in Upper Bavaria and was fully evacuated. The line between Ingolstadt and Nuremberg was temporarily closed.

The RE1 train traveling from Munich to Nuremberg stopped shortly before 7 p.m. near Stammham in the Eichstätt district. A technical fault caused the halt. Rescue teams cared for the passengers, who were then transferred by buses via the A9 motorway. One lane toward Nuremberg was closed for the operation.

The single-track line was initially blocked and replacement services were arranged. Deutsche Bahn later reopened the section between Ingolstadt main station and Nuremberg main station. Spokespeople nevertheless warned of ongoing delays, reroutes and cancellations.

A railway spokesperson expressed regret over the inconvenience to travelers. Police had earlier confirmed a large emergency response at the scene.
