Rögle BK has come back from 0–3 to tie the quarterfinal series against Färjestad BK at 3–3 following a 3–2 win in the sixth game in Karlstad. No Swedish ice hockey team has previously overturned such a deficit in the SM playoffs. The decisive seventh game is set for Sunday in Ängelholm.
Rögle BK is one win away from making history in the SHL SM playoffs. After three initial losses, the team has won the last three games against Färjestad BK, the most recent a 3–2 victory in Karlstad on Good Friday.
The match was dramatic. Rögle escaped the tough first period with a 0–0 tie and exploded in the second with goals from Felix Nilsson, Albin Sundsvik, and Daniel Zaar within 5.49 minutes. Färjestad pulled one back to 1–3 through Radim Zohorna and 2–3 via Viktor Lodin in the third period, but Rögle held on.
Goaltender Arvid Holm was praised for his performance. “It’s always the most fun to play when you have the knife to your throat,” he told TV4 Play. “Mentally, we’ve handled it perfectly. We know what kind of fans we have, and if it rocked here, it will damn well rock on Sunday too.”
Coach Dan Tangnes, who previously overturned a 0–3 deficit in Switzerland, said: “I’ve got everyone daring to believe in it. Now we’ll win the series in Ängelholm on Sunday.” Färjestad coach Cam Abbott conceded: “The second period, where we let in three goals, was too much to overcome.”
The seventh and decisive game is on Sunday in Ängelholm.
