Samba school responds to battery queen scandal

The Império da Tijuca samba school issued an official statement after a video of Elisa Sanches, indicated as battery queen, went viral on social media. The erotic film actress performed at the school's quadra without underwear, sparking controversy. Sanches apologized, explaining she removed the item because it was dirty.

On Sunday, November 2, during a private birthday party at the Império da Tijuca's quadra, after the official Feijoada do Império event, Elisa Sanches, 44, an erotic film actress and adult content producer, performed on stage dancing funk. Dressed in a short dress and without panties, she made poses that fully exposed her, which was recorded in a video that went viral on social media.

Announced as the new battery queen for the Rio Carnival, Sanches explained the incident in an interview. 'It was dirty, I thought it better to take it off', she said, adding: 'It was an error'. The school clarified that she 'was not crowned, only indicated as queen'.

On Tuesday, November 4, the samba school issued a statement through its press office. On behalf of president Thiago Carvalho, the note states: 'Although the fact occurred at a birthday party, of a private nature and with closed doors, we recognize that what happened was inadmissible and unjustifiable. We reaffirm our commitment to preserving samba culture, respect for our flag and our community'. The school apologized to the community, imperianos, sambistas, and friends for any discomfort caused, emphasizing that it continues guided by building a serious and worthy Carnival.
