São Paulo government announces package of measures against domestic violence

The São Paulo state government announced on Monday (30) a package of actions to strengthen the fight against violence toward women. Among the measures is the delivery of 69 rooms for Women's Defense Police Stations in police outposts in the coming months. Governor Tarcísio de Freitas stated that women's defense is a priority.

The announcement took place at an event in Palácio dos Bandeirantes. The actions include creating a ten-year goals plan against domestic violence and signing cooperation agreements for integrated operations. One deal establishes Circuito Integrado SP Por Todas, providing itinerant care for women victims of violence, including shelter, guidance, and referrals.

"Women's defense is our priority," said Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos). "And it takes even more shape when various public power instances unite."

A partnership was signed between the Public Security and Penitentiary Administration Secretariats and the São Paulo Court of Justice to enhance data sharing and monitoring of aggressors using electronic ankle bracelets. Another agreement aims to protect children orphaned by femicide, offering comprehensive care and social support. Nine DDMs will be reclassified to expand capacity, such as those in Ferraz de Vasconcelos and Valinhos, upgraded to 1st class.

The initiative follows the rise in femicides in 2025, with 266 cases statewide (+8.1% from 246 in 2024), per the Public Security Secretariat. In the capital, there were 60 cases (+22.4%). Unified records began in 2018, showing an upward trend since 2023.
