The National Meteorological Service forecasts the possible formation of tornados in northern Mexico on Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, 2025, due to cold fronts 9 and 10. Affected states include eastern Chihuahua, northern Coahuila, and possibly northern Nuevo León, with winds up to 80 km/h, rains, electrical activity, and hail.
The National Water Commission (Conagua) warned of severe weather conditions in northern Mexico, driven by a low-pressure channel and moisture influx from the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. These conditions will start on Friday, October 24, and extend through Saturday, October 25, with possible tornados in eastern Chihuahua, northern Coahuila, and northern Nuevo León.
In addition to tornados, heavy showers with punctual strong rains are expected in northern and northeastern Chihuahua and Coahuila, accompanied by electrical discharges and possible hail. In other regions, a low-pressure channel will favor intervals of showers in areas such as the Las Montañas and Olmeca regions in Veracruz, northern, central, and southern Nayarit, western and southern Jalisco, Colima, western and central Tabasco, central, southern, and coastal Michoacán, and northern, coastal, and southeastern Guerrero.
Tropical wave 39 will move over the Tehuantepec Gulf, causing showers in western Campeche and southern Quintana Roo, with heavy rains in eastern, southwestern, and coastal Oaxaca, as well as central and southern Chiapas. Frost is also forecast with temperatures from -5 to 0 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas of Baja California, Chihuahua, Durango, and Mexico State, and from 0 to 5 degrees in mountainous areas of Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Puebla, and Veracruz.
In response to the low temperatures, Conagua issued recommendations: wear three layers of clothing, cover nose and mouth, avoid sudden temperature changes, stay hydrated, consume foods rich in vitamins A and C, get vaccinated against influenza, ventilate spaces with heaters, and seek medical attention if feeling unwell.
