A helicopter carrying six people crashed and burst into flames in Chepkiep village, Mosop sub-county, Nandi County, killing all aboard. Among the victims are Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno and Kenya Forest Service officer Amos Kipngetich Rotich. Police are continuing investigations.

The helicopter crash occurred on February 28, 2026, around 4:45pm, shortly after the aircraft attempted to take off following an emergency landing due to bad weather. The helicopter, registered as 5Y-DSB and an Airbus Helicopters H125 model, departed Nairobi at 11:02am and is owned by a company with offices at Wilson Airport.

According to police and sources close to the investigation, there were no survivors among the six on board. Nandi County police commander confirmed the incident. Authorities recovered a mobile phone and SIM card belonging to MP Ng’eno, as well as similar items from KFS officer Rotich, at the crash site in Chepkiep, Mosop sub-county. Photographs of four passengers taken before the final flight are being used for identification.

Ng’eno was first elected MP in 2013 and retained his seat in the 2017 and 2022 elections. He chaired the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works, recently leading reviews of the 2026 Budget Policy Statement and oversight of Affordable Housing Projects. He was also a member of the Liaison Committee.

Kenyans.co.ke obtained and reviewed images of the aftermath, including the deceased, which match pre-flight photos. Neither police nor the National Assembly has officially confirmed Ng’eno's death. Investigations continue.
