Sonam Wangchuk's health declines during Jantar Mantar protest

Activist Sonam Wangchuk's health worsened on the fifth day of his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on July 2, 2026. His blood sugar dropped to 60 while blood pressure stayed low. The Cockroach Janata Party also alleged police assaults on students at the site.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said Wangchuk's condition was continuously deteriorating. He warned that the government would be responsible if anything happened to him and repeated calls for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign.

Dipke claimed Delhi Police assaulted two youths trying to set up a library and threw away books on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Bhagat Singh. He demanded the suspension of Assistant Commissioner of Police Ajay Sharma.

CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya and RTI activist Nikhil Dey addressed the gathering. They called for wider unity against authoritarianism and drew parallels with past campaigns for the Right to Information Act.

The protest, which began on June 20 over alleged NEET examination irregularities, also involves six All India Students' Association members on indefinite hunger strike. Their blood sugar levels were reported between 50 and 68 mg/dL.
