Tamarite wildfire stabilizes allowing evacuated residents to return home

The Government of Aragón has lowered the emergency level of the Tamarite de Litera forest fire after its stabilization on Saturday at 10:00.

The fire, which broke out on Friday in the municipality of Tamarite de Litera, has burned around 4,300 hectares. The decision to lower the Special Civil Protection Plan from Situation 2-Level 2 to Operative Situation 1-Level 1 was made during the CECOPI meeting.

Residents of Azanuy, Alins and Calasanz, evacuated since the fire advanced, will be able to return to their homes from 13:00. Councillor Roberto Bermúdez de Castro said the firefighting operation will remain active due to the risk from heat and wind.

The blaze started from a spark caused by a harvester. Another fire in Loarre, ignited by lightning, has already been declared extinguished. Road A-2216 remains closed to traffic.
