Tanya Tagaq announces new album Saputjiji

Canadian musician Tanya Tagaq is set to release her new album Saputjiji on March 6 through Six Shooter Records. The announcement coincides with the debut of a stage production inspired by her 2018 book. The first single, Foxtrot, features guest vocals from Damian Abraham of Fucked Up.

Tanya Tagaq, known for her innovative throat singing and experimental music, has revealed details of her upcoming album, Saputjiji. Scheduled for release on March 6 via Six Shooter Records, the album follows her 2022 effort, Tongues. This project marks another step in Tagaq's exploration of Inuit traditions blended with contemporary sounds.

Accompanying the album is a stage production titled Split Tooth: Saputjiji, adapted from Tagaq's 2018 novel Split Tooth. Directed by Kaneza Schaal, the performance will incorporate songs from the new record, creating an immersive experience that ties music to storytelling. This multimedia approach highlights Tagaq's versatility as an artist bridging literature, performance, and sound.

The lead single, Foxtrot, has already been shared, showcasing collaboration with Damian Abraham, vocalist of the punk band Fucked Up. The tracklist for Saputjiji includes: Fuck War, Razorblades, Foxtrot, When They Call, Exit Wound, Ikualajut, Bohica, Lichens, Expensive Plane Tickets, and Black Boot. These titles suggest themes of conflict, resilience, and introspection, consistent with Tagaq's past work.

Fans can expect Saputjiji to continue Tagaq's boundary-pushing style, building on her reputation for powerful, genre-defying releases.
