Texas mothers arrested after baby injured by siblings

Two Texas mothers were arrested after allegedly leaving their children in the care of an 18-year-old who failed to stop the older kids from injuring a two-month-old infant. The baby suffered seizures and a brain bleed and was placed in a medically induced coma.

Sidney Whitt, 21, and Jacqulun Morales, 29, left their children ages six, four and two months with Morales' sister Shelby Munoz, according to police. They locked the children in a bedroom and went to a hotel to drink alcohol and use drugs.

The older children tossed and stomped on the infant's head. Munoz told detectives she did not intervene because the children were not hers. The mothers returned the next day and did not seek medical help immediately.

Police found the home lacked air conditioning and was infested with flies, with rat feces, diapers and clothing on the floor. Child Protective Services notified authorities on June 18.

Munoz and Morales were arrested on June 23 and Whitt on June 25. All three face charges of child endangerment and injury to a child, each with a $250,000 bond. The infant remained on a ventilator in a medically induced coma as of June 26.
