Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 earned $71 million domestically on its opening day Friday, topping the North American box office.
The film played in 4,425 theaters and is tracking for a weekend total between $150 million and $175 million. That would mark the biggest opening in the franchise, surpassing Toy Story 4's $120 million debut.
Globally the movie has taken in $129.3 million so far, including $58.3 million from international markets. The UK and China posted the strongest opening days for a Pixar title in those territories.
Andrew Stanton directed the sequel, which carries a $250 million production budget. Voice cast members include Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Greta Lee, Keanu Reeves and Bad Bunny.
