The Utah Mammoth head to Toronto for the second game of a back-to-back after a 2-1 overtime victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Facing the Maple Leafs on Wednesday at Scotiabank Arena, Utah aims to maintain momentum against a team that has won four of its last five games. Captain Clayton Keller expressed excitement for the matchup.
The Utah Mammoth (9-4-0) continue their road trip with a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs (7-5-1) on Nov. 5, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. MT. This marks the second of four straight games against Eastern Conference opponents for Utah, following their recent 2-1 overtime win in Buffalo.
Recent Form for Utah
Utah snapped a two-game losing skid with the victory over the Sabres. Clayton Keller scored 47 seconds into overtime, while Nick Schmaltz netted the first goal. Goaltender Karel Vejmelka made 17 saves on 18 shots. Head coach André Tourigny praised the team's performance: “Our four lines, our six (defensemen), our goalie were really good. I think there’s a lot of stuff we were talking about lately, our gap, our reloading, our poise with the puck, our battles down low, our possession in the o-zone, making good plays, going at the net. Really proud of the way the boys played.”
Logan Cooley and Schmaltz lead Utah with eight goals each, while Schm vz's 10 assists and 18 points top the team. Cooley has seven road goals, tied for the league lead. Keller has five multi-point games this season. With Vejmelka playing Tuesday, Vítek Vaněček may start; he holds a 2-1-0 record, 2.00 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.
Keller commented on the quick turnaround: “Like our coach said, you enjoy the win for a couple minutes and then turn the page. It's a quick turn around here. We're super excited to play here.” Tourigny highlighted the team's growing experience: “That's a big theme for us this year. You cannot buy experience. You need to go through it.”
Toronto's Strengths
The Maple Leafs have won two straight, including a 4-3 comeback against the Pittsburgh Penguins after trailing 3-0. William Nylander scored twice in the third period, with Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann adding one each. Matthews leads with seven goals, Nylander has 13 assists and 18 points. Matthew Knies and John Tavares each have 16 points, Matthews 11.
Tourigny scouted Toronto: “Toronto is a really good team off the forecheck and off the rush. The way we play in the neutral zone to limit their time and space (is important) and apply as much pressure on them.” Anthony Stolarz is Toronto's starter with a 5-4-1 record, 3.12 goals-against average and .896 save percentage. The Maple Leafs average 3.62 goals for and against per game, fourth in the NHL.
This is the first of two meetings this season between the teams.
