The West Bengal government has set up a judicial commission to examine allegations of corruption in multiple departments during the Trinamool Congress rule from 2011 to May 2026.
The notification was issued on Wednesday by the Home and Hill Affairs Department. Retired Calcutta High Court judge Justice Biswajit Basu will head the panel, which also includes a senior IPS officer, an IAS or West Bengal Civil Service officer, and a West Bengal Revenue Service officer.
The commission will review claims of large-scale bribery, irregularities in Cyclone Amphan relief distribution, misuse of funds under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, and problems in the midday meal scheme. It covers departments including Education, Food and Supplies, Relief and Disaster Management, Municipal Affairs, Panchayats, Housing, Fisheries, Industry, Land, and Public Works.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari approved the panel during a State Cabinet meeting on May 18. The commission will submit periodic reports, recommend FIRs where needed, and seek recovery of misappropriated funds through property attachment if required.
