A woman died on Tuesday, July 21, after a crash in Viña del Mar sent a car into the Metro station.
The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Álvarez and Eduardo Grove streets. Two vehicles collided and one lost control, knocked down perimeter fences and entered the Viña del Mar Metro station.
The victim was a pedestrian entering the station at the time. Carabineros reported she was about 50 years old. Five people were injured and taken to medical centers.
Both drivers were detained. The Traffic Accident Investigation Section of Carabineros is investigating the crash dynamics under instructions from the Public Ministry.
Firefighters from Viña del Mar confirmed that service on the rest of the Limache-Puerto line continues normally after the temporary station closure.
