76-year-old robbed of heirloom rings at Danderyd hospital

A 76-year-old man named Tommy Eriksson lost his valuable rings during a visit to Danderyd Hospital. The jewelry, heirlooms from his parents, disappeared after he handed them over in his wallet to a nurse. This is not the first time thefts have been reported at the hospital.

Tommy Eriksson, 76, arrived at the emergency department of Danderyd Hospital by ambulance on Saturday afternoon. After a while, a nurse asked him to remove his rings and watch for an X-ray examination. He placed the jewelry in the coin compartment of his wallet and asked the nurse to zip it closed.

When he received the wallet back, both rings were gone. They are heirlooms from his parents, and one was intended for his grandson. "The one ring I inherited from my father and I promised my grandson he would inherit it from me," says Tommy Eriksson. He reported it immediately to the staff, who he says denied such incidents ever happen. A kind nurse searched his clothes, but the rings were not found. Tommy has filed a police report and expresses deep sadness and anger: "They are pigs who behave that way. It's not right."

This is not an isolated incident. In spring, a wave of thefts saw jewelry from about 50 patients and relatives, including the deceased, disappear. Over 30 theft alarms were reported. Moderate Party's Kristoffer Tamsons criticized the regional leadership at the time: "I think it's very serious. I'm surprised the current regional leadership hasn't acted."

The hospital opened a phone line for lost valuables and has updated procedures. Security chief Corinne Pedroletti emphasizes: "As a patient in a vulnerable situation, one should of course feel safe that private valuables are handled securely." Patients are advised not to bring valuables, and new storage boxes are being installed this week. The hospital does not comment on individual cases.
