Two buses collide in central Malmö

Two buses collided on Norra Vallgatan in central Malmö, trapping one driver in the wreckage. Two people were taken to hospital, but no serious injuries were reported. The incident is being investigated as careless driving in traffic.

The accident occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, shortly after 3:20 p.m., on the busy Norra Vallgatan in central Malmö. A green city bus rear-ended a regional bus and then bounced into a house wall, trapping the bus driver, according to rescue leader David Palm at Räddningstjänsten Syd.

Police, ambulance, and rescue services were called to the scene. Passengers evacuated the buses themselves, and a passenger car was also involved in the collision, says Mattias Sköld, duty officer at Räddningstjänsten Syd. Rescue services worked for about an hour to free the trapped driver, who was then taken to hospital. "The assessment is not that he is severely injured," said David Palm.

An additional person was taken to hospital by ambulance. "There are no reports of serious personal injuries," commented police spokesperson Katarina Rusin. Traffic on the street was diverted during the rescue operation, and no one is reported to have suffered serious injuries. Police are investigating the incident as careless driving in traffic.

Norra Vallgatan is a highly trafficked road with both bus traffic and passenger cars, according to Rusin, highlighting the risks in urban environments.
