App State women's track team secures multiple top finishes at Hokie Invitational

App State women's track and field team competed at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia, achieving over a dozen top-five finishes and breaking two program records. Standout performances included a 1-2 finish in the 800-meter and strong showings in sprints and field events. The Mountaineers demonstrated depth across various events during the indoor meet.

App State women's track and field team traveled to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, for the Hokie Invitational, where they delivered an impressive performance on Saturday. The Mountaineers secured nearly a dozen podium finishes and notched top-five results 19 times overall, with 11 podium placements across the weekend.

In the women's 800-meter, freshman Josie Jackson led with a personal-best time of 2:13.24 for first place, followed by senior Addison Ollendick-Smith in second at a season-best 2:15.28. Junior Jayla Adams earned second in the 200-meter, while sophomore Ja’Naya Linder took second in the 400-meter with a season-best time. In field events, sophomore Lilly Nichols cleared 4.17 meters for second in the pole vault, and freshman Ashlynn Wimberly jumped 1.66 meters for second in the high jump.

The team also achieved top-five finishes in the 1,000-meter, mile, long jump, and triple jump, along with places second through sixth in the 300-meter. The women's 4x400-meter relay team finished second with a season-best 3:44.92, just under a second behind Radford University.

Two program records were broken: Adams in the 300-meter with 38.42 seconds for second place, and Jackson in the 1,000-meter with 2:52.62 for fourth. These achievements highlight the team's progress in the indoor season. App State will return to Blacksburg for the Doc Hale VT Meet on February 6-7.
