Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted, “He’s just been struggling to get consistency with his delivery and fastball profile.” Gil, the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year, saw his ERA rise to 6.05 with nine strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings this season. He was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after the game. A three-run ninth against Astros reliever Enyel De Los Santos got the Yankees within three, but they could not complete the comeback. Walker went 3-for-4 with his second straight homer and leads the majors with four games of three-plus hits and a homer this year.
