The BEM Bersatu alliance urged sterilization of student movements from funding and practical political intervention during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
BEM Bersatu spokesperson Rahmat Djimbula stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, that the alliance rejects any hijacking of student movements by practical political interests.
"Student movements must remain the voice of the people, not a tool of elites in the struggle for power," Rahmat said. He assessed that several recent student actions have begun losing direction due to minimal study and weak arguments.
BEM Bersatu suspects involvement of retired General TNI SS behind opposition to the Free Nutritious Meals program. Rahmat cited indications including a Fortuner vehicle used by Tiyo Ardianto registered under SN, SS's sister, as well as Tiyo's presence at a forum with SS in Bandung scheduled for June 18, 2026.
