The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced the fine on December 22, 2025, following an incident in NHL Game No. 551 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators. At 12:47 of the first period, during a scrum after the whistle, Grzelcyk cross-checked Stützle in the face, leading to a double-minor penalty for high-sticking. The fine, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement for cross-checking, will be directed to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Grzelcyk, who joined the Blackhawks on a professional tryout during training camp, earned a one-year, $1 million contract for the 2025-26 season. In 35 games this season, he has recorded zero goals, six assists, 30 blocks, and a plus-3 rating, contributing solidly to the team's blueline.
