Blue Jackets place Miles Wood on injured reserve and recall Danton Heinen

The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed forward Miles Wood on injured reserve after he suffered a lower body injury in a game against the New Jersey Devils. The team announced the move and recalled forward Danton Heinen from the American Hockey League's Cleveland Monsters. Wood is expected to be sidelined week-to-week.

The Columbus Blue Jackets made a roster adjustment on Thursday, placing veteran forward Miles Wood on injured reserve due to a lower body injury sustained during Wednesday night's game against the New Jersey Devils. Club President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell announced the decision, noting that Wood is considered week-to-week with the injury.

Wood, a 30-year-old native of Buffalo, New York, has recorded eight goals and four assists for 12 points, along with 16 penalty minutes, in 32 games this season—his first with the Blue Jackets. Standing at 6-foot-2 and 209 pounds, he has amassed 99 goals, 95 assists, and 194 points with 566 penalty minutes in 545 career NHL games across stints with the Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, and New Jersey Devils since his debut in the 2015-16 season. Wood joined Columbus in a trade from Colorado on June 27, 2025, alongside forward Charlie Coyle, in exchange for forward Gavin Brindley, a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, and a conditional second-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft. He was originally drafted by New Jersey in the fourth round, 100th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft.

To fill the roster spot, the Blue Jackets recalled 30-year-old forward Danton Heinen from the Cleveland Monsters. Heinen, a 6-foot-2, 187-pound native of Langley, British Columbia, has tallied 97 goals, 146 assists, and 243 points with 139 penalty minutes and a plus-29 rating in 579 career NHL games over the past 10 seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, and Anaheim Ducks. In the 2025-26 season, he has posted 1-1-2 and eight penalty minutes in 13 games with the Penguins, plus 6-12-18 and six penalty minutes in 13 AHL appearances with the Monsters and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Columbus acquired Heinen from Pittsburgh on December 29 and originally selected him by Boston in the fourth round, 116th overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Saturday, hosting the Buffalo Sabres at Nationwide Arena at 3 p.m. ET. Coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on FanDuel Sports Network, with radio on 97.1 The Fan and online at BlueJackets.com.
