Brewers designate Lance McCullers Jr. for assignment

The Milwaukee Brewers designated right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. for assignment before their series finale against the Rockies. The move came 11 days after the team acquired him from the Houston Astros.

McCullers appeared in two relief outings for Milwaukee and posted a 3.86 ERA with five strikeouts and five walks in 4 2/3 innings. His final appearance occurred during an 8-5 win over Colorado on Saturday.

The Brewers acquired McCullers and left-hander Colton Gordon from the Astros on July 15 in exchange for minor-league outfielder Jadyn Fielder. Houston covered most of McCullers’ remaining salary with a payment of approximately $4.23 million.

McCullers spent his entire prior MLB career with Houston, where he went 53-40 with a 3.85 ERA and contributed to World Series titles in 2017 and 2022. The Brewers now have seven days to trade him or place him on waivers.

In a corresponding move, the club recalled right-hander Garrett Stallings from Triple-A Nashville.
