Bulls hold internal talks on trading for Anthony Davis

The Chicago Bulls have engaged in internal discussions about acquiring Chicago native Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks, according to a report. The team views Davis as a potential solution to their defensive issues and a veteran addition to their young roster. However, the Bulls are unwilling to dismantle their emerging core to make the deal.

After starting the season 6-1, the Chicago Bulls have struggled recently, falling to 9-10 and the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference. As the NBA trade season nears, with most restrictions lifting on December 15 for players who signed summer deals, the Bulls are weighing their options as potential buyers.

Internal conversations within the organization have centered on Anthony Davis, the 32-year-old star center and Chicago native, per ESPN's report. Some Bulls personnel see him as a key to fixing their leaky defense and providing leadership for a talented young group. Yet, the consensus is clear: the team would not break up its young core to pursue Davis or any other veteran.

The young core includes guard Josh Giddey and forward Matas Buzelis, with guard Coby White potentially in that mix as well. Even if the Bulls made an offer, it remains uncertain whether they could entice the Mavericks without including those pieces. Including White might spark more interest from Dallas, but Davis's diminished trade value—due to his contract and injury history—complicates matters.

The Mavericks, who fired general manager Nico Harrison last month, are expected to at least listen to offers on Davis. They previously traded Luka Dončić to acquire him, a move that set a high bar for any return. Finding a suitable fit for Davis has proven challenging league-wide.

Given Davis's local ties, his name will likely surface in Bulls trade rumors. However, after their recent slide, a major move seems unlikely unless the team rebounds to playoff contention ahead of the deadline.
