A Skånetrafiken bus collided with a horse on the E22 at Ekerödsrasten near Hörby on Saturday. The bus driver, a man in his 70s, was trapped but taken to hospital with minor injuries. Four passengers escaped unharmed, while the horse died in the crash.
The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Police were alerted to several loose horses moving north on the southbound lane at Ekerödsrasten in Hörby, Skåne. A Skånetrafiken bus collided with one of the horses, trapping the driver in the vehicle.
Rescue services from three fire stations worked to free the 75-year-old man, who was awake and talking but injured. By 6:26 p.m., he was loaded into an ambulance and taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to Region Skåne. The four passengers on the bus avoided physical harm.
The horse involved died from its injuries. Police contacted the owner soon after, and by 6 p.m., the remaining three horses were captured and returned. A report of a traffic accident was filed, with no suspicion of crime.
Traffic was heavily disrupted: the E22 southbound was fully closed, and the northbound lane was partially opened with reduced speed. "There is major traffic impact," said police spokesperson Evelina Olsson. "It's chaotic out there," she added about the scene. Trafikverket provided no timeline for reopening the road.
