Canada defeated Qatar 6-0 in Vancouver in the second matchday of Group B at the 2026 World Cup, with Cristián Garay refereeing and Juan Lara on VAR in decisions that included two disputed red cards.
The match took place on June 18 in Vancouver. Canada took the lead with goals from Cyle Larin in the 16th minute and Jonathan David in the 29th. At the 33rd minute Garay sent off Qatar defender Homam El-Amin after a VAR review of a foul outside the box on Tajon Buchanan.
In the second half Assim Madibo injured Ismaël Koné at the 54th minute. Garay initially showed a yellow card and later upgraded it to red after assessing the severity of the challenge. David scored the third goal in stoppage time of the first half and Nathan Saliba added the fourth in the 63rd minute.
An own goal by Mohammed Mannai in the 75th minute and another David goal in the 90+2 completed the rout. Canada reached four points and moved ahead of Switzerland on goal difference, positioning the team close to the round of 32. It was Canada's first-ever victory in a World Cup.
