Danish firm announces $500 million solar project in Antofagasta

The Danish fund Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) presented the 'Parque Fotovoltaico Ckoirama Solar' project, a 420.6 MW plant in the Antofagasta commune with a $500 million investment. The initiative, filed with the Environmental Assessment Service (Seia), ranks among Chile's largest photovoltaic projects this year. It is expected to begin execution in December 2027.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a global fund manager founded in 2012, announced its new investment in Chile through its Growth Markets Fund II subsidiary. The 'Parque Fotovoltaico Ckoirama Solar' project involves building a solar photovoltaic plant with 420.6 MW installed capacity and a net injection of 300 MWac to the National Electric System (SEN). It will be located on 873 hectares in the Antofagasta commune, about 30 km south of the urban area, in the Antofagasta Region.

The environmental impact declaration (DIA) specifies that the plant will include 584,118 bifacial solar panels of 720 W mounted on single-axis trackers, underground cabling, service roads, and connection to the Liqcau Substation of Edelnor Transmisión. It will also feature a 33/220 kV elevating substation and a 220 kV transmission line of 17.6 km with 57 towers. The estimated investment is $500 million, generating an average of 600 jobs during construction, with a maximum of 900, reducing to 15-20 in operation.

This project is the fourth highest-value photovoltaic initiative filed with the Seia this year, following Peuco by Oenergy ($794 million, suspended), Sol de Algarrobal by Austria Energy ($585 million, suspended), and Radal Solar by Eurus Energy ($500 million, suspended). CIP manages 12 funds with about 35 billion euros from over 180 institutional investors and has 600 employees in 12 global offices.

In Chile, CIP is involved in the Arena BESS project for $300 million, approved in 2024, and the hybrid Llanura Solar project for $1.3 billion (suspended). It also participates in the $11 billion green ammonia megaproject in Magallanes (suspended), alongside AustriaEnergy and Ökowing, underscoring its commitment to renewable energy in the country.
