Dassett Eventing has introduced four new leagues for young event horses, each offering a £1,500 prize pot. The initiative targets five- to eight-year-old horses competing in British Eventing fixtures this season. Prizes will go to the top three finishers in each age group.
Dassett Eventing at Aston-le-Walls developed the young horse leagues to support and reward the development of promising event horses. Alice Rocher of Dassett Eventing said, “We have always been keen to support showcasing top young event horses, as that is what we specialise in producing.” The leagues provide recognition and financial rewards during the early years of training and competition across all levels, from BE90 to advanced classes tailored by age group: BE90 for five-year-olds, BE100 for six-year-olds, novice for seven-year-olds, and intermediate for eight-year-olds. Points accumulate from all British Eventing fixtures, including open, under-18, under-21, and international sections. Competitors can collect points at Aston-le-Walls events scheduled for 13-17 May, 10-12 July, 24-26 July, and 13-15 August. Rocher added that since 2009, Dassett has run popular classes for eight- and nine-year-olds, and this new league aims to motivate riders producing young horses with extra prizes and competition.
