Delhi-NCR air quality remains poor to very poor on December 9

On December 9, 2025, Delhi's air quality index stood at 294 in the 'poor' category at 5:30 am, with several areas reporting 'very poor' levels. Thick haze enveloped parts of the city. NCR regions like Gurgaon and Noida also faced similar pollution challenges.

Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) saw air quality remain in the 'poor' and 'very poor' categories on December 9, 2025. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System (EWS), the overall AQI in Delhi was 294 at 5:30 am. Bawana recorded the highest at 342, followed by Jahangirpuri and Pusa at 331, and Nehru Nagar at 325.

These were among the top areas in the 'very poor' category. Other parts stayed in the 'poor' category, with Narela at 298, Sri Aurobindo Marg at 296, Dilshad Garden at 295, Okhla Phase 2 at 294, Burari Crossing at 292, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 287, DU North Campus at 282, and Najafgarh at 281.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) classifies AQI from 201 to 300 as 'poor' and 301 to 400 as 'very poor'. In NCR, Gurgaon's Sector 51 showed 313 and Teri Gram station 318 at 7 am. Greater Noida recorded 302, while Noida reached 314.

A cold wave continues to grip north India, exacerbating pollution levels. Fresh snowfall in Himachal has led to road closures, and while Delhi saw minor relief, air quality remains poor. Health advisories recommend that sensitive groups limit outdoor exposure.
