Deonna Purrazzo says TNA run with Chelsea Green played on NXT experiences

Deonna Purrazzo described her 2022 TNA tag team run with Chelsea Green as a direct response to challenges faced in NXT. The duo dominated the Knockouts tag division and held the championships for nearly two months. In an interview, Purrazzo detailed rejected team names and ideas from NXT that influenced their TNA work.

Deonna Purrazzo recently spoke with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp about her time teaming with Chelsea Green in TNA Wrestling during the back half of 2022. The pair dominated the Knockouts tag division, holding the Knockouts Tag Team Championships for nearly two months as Vexed. Purrazzo explained that this run was intentionally a 'play on everything they went through in NXT.' In NXT, they considered various tag team names under the VXT concept, originally pitched by Rachael Ellering, which included Purrazzo, Green, and Ellering. Ideas included 'hell-bent Vixens' and 'the Calvary,' a nod to the Horsewomen. Green favored Diva-era references, while Purrazzo preferred historical ones. NXT rejected VXT for PC Live events and suggested 'Due Collectors' instead, which offended them as it seemed to imply they needed to pay dues. 'We were kind of like offended,' Purrazzo recalled. They repurposed 'Due Collector' as a potential name for their double pendulum finisher in TNA, but TNA's Tom Hannifin declined, stating, 'I’m not fucking saying that.' The choice of 'Vexed' in TNA stemmed from NXT's rejection of VXT. Purrazzo highlighted how these NXT rejections shaped their TNA presentation, turning past frustrations into on-screen elements.
