Don Mancini announces new Chucky movie at Steel City Con

Don Mancini, creator of the Child’s Play franchise, revealed at Pennsylvania’s Steel City Con that he is writing a new Chucky movie. The project will continue the storyline from the 2017 film Cult of Chucky and the Syfy series that ran from 2021 to 2024. Mancini plans to direct the sequel himself.

At Steel City Con in Pennsylvania, Don Mancini told attendees, “I’m writing a new Chucky movie,” according to Bloody Disgusting. The upcoming film picks up after 2017’s Cult of Chucky and the three-season Syfy series, which ended in September 2024 amid NBCUniversal’s shifts in cable scripted programming. Mancini expressed heartbreak over the cancellation but gratitude toward fans, posting on X: “HE’LL BE BACK.” He praised the #RenewChucky campaign, adding that Chucky would say, “See ya real soon.” The Syfy series, executive produced by Mancini alongside Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, David Kirschner, and Jeff Renfoe, followed the killer doll’s murderous adventures. Before the axe fell, Mancini had pitched an idea for a fourth season that excited him. Jennifer Tilly, who plays Tiffany in the franchise, echoed the optimism in a recent Entertainment Tonight interview: “I know for a fact there is more Chucky and Tiffany in the works. The gruesome twosome.” Mancini launched the Chucky saga with the 1988 film Child’s Play, co-written with John Lafia and directed by Tom Holland. He wrote subsequent entries including Child’s Play 2 (1990), Child’s Play 3 (1991), Bride of Chucky (1998), Seed of Chucky (2004), Curse of Chucky (2013), and Cult of Chucky (2017), directing the last three.
