Egypt implements EGP 215.5bn in green public investments during FY2024/25

Egypt carried out about EGP 215.5 billion in green public investments in fiscal year 2024/25, with transport projects making up the biggest portion, according to a report reviewed by Minister Ahmed Rostom.

The investments covered seven sectors. Green transport took 71.5 percent of the total, followed by the Decent Life initiative at 10.5 percent, sustainable urban development at 8 percent, and smaller shares for environmental improvement, agriculture and irrigation, clean energy, and communications.

Of the total, 87 percent supported climate mitigation projects and 13 percent went to adaptation measures. Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom said the results show progress under the National Climate Change Strategy.

Rostom noted that the government aims to raise the green share of public investment to around 60 percent by fiscal year 2026/27. Projects completed last year included parts of the Cairo Metro, a high-speed electric rail network, renewable energy plants, and wastewater treatment facilities.
