An eight-month-old baby was found abandoned in an improvised camp in Ecatepec's El Parque neighborhood, Estado de México. A neighbor rescued her and authorities took her to a DIF shelter.
Municipal police officers responded to the site after neighbors reported the incident. The girl was found in good health. Witnesses indicated her mother, a woman living on the street with substance abuse issues, may have left her there.
The child was taken to the Specialized Public Prosecutor's Agency for Family, Sexual and Gender Violence. A complaint was filed for the crime of abandonment of a dependent. Staff from the DIF's Office for the Protection of Girls, Boys, Adolescents and Older Adults took her to Casa Hogar.
Between January and March 2026, the DIF in Ecatepec has rescued 19 minors in vulnerable situations. Neighborhoods with the most cases include Luis Donaldo Colosio and Ejidal Emiliano Zapata.
