Ex-mayor of San Juan Quiahije and son killed in Oaxaca

Carlos Orocio Cruz, former mayor of San Juan Quiahije, and his son Celestino Orocio Cruz were killed on Sunday in the Chatina region of Oaxaca.

Municipal authorities confirmed the killings and condemned the act of violence. Carlos Orocio Cruz led the town hall during the 2023-2025 term and was remembered as a farmer who served his community.

“Don Carlos was a good man, a worker, a farmer, who served his people in an exemplary manner in every position entrusted to him,” the municipal authority said.

The double homicide occurred one day after the killing of San Miguel Amatitlán mayor Joel Bravo Martínez, who had requested protection after expressing fear for his life in May.
