A major fire this afternoon in Morata de Tajuña, Madrid, caused the collapse of three single-family homes on Calle de la Vía. No injuries or trapped people were reported, as residents were evacuated in time. Firefighters continue working to extinguish the blaze and clear debris.
The fire started around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday in a tractor inside a garage, according to initial reports, and quickly spread to three 15-year-old single-family homes owned by three farmer brothers. An initial explosion fueled the flames, which also affected vehicles and fuel tanks in the homes, sources from the municipality and Emergencies 112 reported.
Firefighters from the Community of Madrid arrived and witnessed the total collapse of the buildings before beginning extinction efforts, producing a large cloud of dust. "The firefighters have focused their work on preventing the fire from that plot from spreading to the surrounding area and right now, together with the Morata Town Hall, we are doing debris removal work with heavy machinery," the firefighters explained.
Tamara, a local resident, recounted that firefighters warned them: "they had to evacuate the houses because the homes on the street behind were collapsing." All occupants of the two occupied homes exited with the first explosion. Summa 112 medical teams attended preventively, but no interventions were needed.
The area remains evacuated, and neighbors are organizing a collection to support the affected families.
