Fireworks chaos burdens police in Jönköping, Sörmland and Linköping

Police in Jönköping, Sörmland and Linköping are handling hundreds of reports of fireworks and bangs on Monday evening. Authorities are struggling to respond to all calls, with issues persisting for weeks. Four youths have been detained in Åtvidaberg on suspicion of illegal use.

On Monday evening, police in Linköping received countless reports of fireworks and bangs from across the city, including central Linköping, Ljungsbro, Ryd, and Skäggetorp. The issues have been ongoing for a couple of weeks, according to Corren. 'We have received countless alarms about fireworks and bangs throughout the county. It's everywhere and we can't respond to all of them, it's concerning,' says Mats Pettersson, police spokesperson in Linköping, to the newspaper.

In Åtvidaberg, police encountered four youths suspected of setting off bangs and fireworks. 'It's an ongoing case, but we will contact their parents during the evening. It's illegal to set off both bangs and fireworks now. Moreover, it's illegal if you are under 18 years old,' adds Pettersson.

In Sörmland, police responded to calls from Brandkärr and Nyfors in Nyköping, as well as Skogsängen in Eskilstuna. In Skogsängen, a paper bin caught fire after being hit by a firework, according to the police event note.

In Jönköping, around 100 alarms were handled during the evening, reports Jönköpings-Posten. One incident was mistaken for gunfire at Asecs shopping center, prompting a major police response.
