Five shootings have occurred in Sweden since the weekend, three of them fatal. The incidents took place in Örebro, the Stockholm area, and Malmö. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer described them as horrific acts of violence.
Following a period of relatively few shootings earlier this year, five have occurred in Sweden since Saturday, three fatal. On March 21, 20-year-old Hugo Mosshagen was killed in Örebro. He had no known gang ties, and police are investigating if a companion was the intended target, according to reports to Expressen. On Monday, March 23, a teenager was injured near Vårbyparkens IP in Huddinge south of Stockholm and later died. On Tuesday, March 24, a man in his 50s was shot at Mathildatorget in Solna; a boy under 15 is suspected, per Aftonbladet. On Wednesday, an 18-year-old was seriously wounded on an SL bus in Tyresö, and a 15-year-old was killed in Rosengård, Malmö, where a boy and girl both around 15 were arrested. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M) told TT: “Several serious shootings have occurred across the country in recent days. These are horrific acts of violence, and my thoughts are first and foremost with the victims, their families, friends, and all others affected.” He noted that deadly gang violence has halved since 2022 but stressed the need to continue reforms. Social Democrats' Teresa Carvalho expressed sympathy and readiness to cooperate against gang violence.
