Florida Instacart shopper charged with child abuse after slapping son

A 36-year-old Florida woman faces a child abuse charge after allegedly striking her 6-year-old son during a grocery delivery for Instacart. The incident was captured on Ring doorbell footage in St. Augustine.

Kiah Lowery was arrested by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office following the May 31 event at an apartment on Alta Street. Deputies said she handed the boy a 26-pound pack of water bottles, which he dropped because it was too heavy for him to carry.

Video shows Lowery chasing the child and hitting him in the face after he dropped the water. She was recorded yelling at him and calling him names before deputies identified her from the footage.

Lowery told officers her son had been defiant and described the moment as over-stimulated. She posted a $5,000 bond after booking into the St. Johns County Jail and is barred from contacting the boy.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 7.
